If you haven't read by now, Fred Phelps, the founder of Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, KS, is currently on his death bed and under the care of Hospice. Westboro Baptist Church is largely known for its extreme and hateful ideologies against the LGBT as well as conducting hateful protests at military funerals. I'm not sure that there is one gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender person on this planet that has not heard of and been hurt by Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church (that I may add is not affiliated with any Baptist denomination); however, this blog serves a different purpose than to condone hate during this time.
Because of the hatred fueled by Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist church, it is understandable that many would want to celebrate this moment, protest at his funeral or denounce his word (which, who am I kidding? We all denounce the words of Phelps), but I urge all of us to take a moment and realize that we are BETTER than this. We live in a world in which we clearly see that living under the law of an eye for an eye serves no other purpose than to fuel the same hatred that we have been the victims of since the beginning. And to be honest, this public denouncing is likely what this church (primarily consisting of Phelps' own family members) is waiting for.
Anger is a powerful emotion that each and every one of us feels and even acts on from time to time, it's natural. However, as cliché as it may seem, until we as a society learn to promote peacefulness and positivity, and find ways to conquer adversity in the name of doing so...there will always be these sorts of outcomes and realistically, what has violence given any of us? It hasn't given us a damn thing; at most, it has taken something away from every single one of us.
We should not be so naive to believe that the eventual passing of Fred Phelps will be the end of Westboro Baptist Church, because it won't. We may want to go all out in the celebration of his death, but I hope...I hope that we all we choose to be better than that. Accept it for what it is and move on. Let go. Westboro isn't the first to hate us, Westboro won't be the last.

By now nearly everyone has heard about the murders of the young couple, Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson, both age 24 from Houston, Texas. The couple traveled to Galveston, Texas to celebrate Mardi Gras. It’s unknown exactly when things turned horribly wrong, but they did.
The bodies of Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson were found beside a dumpster, behind a Bolivar store on March 7, 2014. The medical examiner's report stated that Crystal died from a gunshot wound while Britney died from blunt force trauma. For days a composite sketch was released of a man that had been spotted with the girls along with information about Britney’s stolen 2006 Kia Sorrento.
In a twist, while everyone was searching for the man in the composite sketch, the father of Britney Cosby was arrested after attending a vigil for the young ladies that Wednesday. Investigators questioned him as to how his fingerprint could be located at the crime scene back in Bolivar. I do not want to speculate, but James Larry Cosby is being held on $500,000 bond for “tampering with evidence.” In a statement released by local authorities, they stated that the home in which they all lived, looked to be a secondary crime scene.
So again, tisk tisk to speculating, but this is America, the home of speculation. I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around the idea that James Cosby, the same man that was quoted as saying, "You can't really put something like this into words," in regard to his daughter’s murder, is the same man that could have had something to do with their murders in the first place. If that isn’t a tell-tale sign of a sociopath, I’m not sure what is.
I don’t want to lose focus and if the preliminary reports speak on anything relating to their sexuality as being the cause of their murders, rest assured that you will be hearing my opinions on the matter. But for now, my overall focus is on these two women and the fact that their lives were snatched away from them in their prime, not to mention that Crystal’s 5 year old daughter will have to grow up without her mother. They were someone’s daughter, mother, sister, niece, aunt, friend…and in the blink of an eye, they were taken away.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Crystal Jackson and Britney Cosby, may you all find a sense of peace, comfort, and in time, a sense of closure that only God can provide. You are in our prayers!

I've been debating on writing this blog for the past couple of days and decided that it was in everyone's best interest to put it up. My first hope for this blog is that people realize that there is just as much judgment WITHIN our community as there is OUTSIDE of it.
* For the purposes of this blog, masculine identified females will be referred to as studs in hopes of cutting down any confusion.
Misconceptions in the LGBT community.
The other day someone spoke to me in regards to "bisexual" studs and how it disgusted them for various reasons and how it was different for a fem to be bisexual versus a stud. I was stunned to say the least, and for more than one reason. That ideology alone is the reason why so many people in our community suffer. The outside world that is against anything and everything LGBT already makes us feel as though there is no place for us in society, and to make matters worse, often times we do the same to bisexuals. But wait that's not it...the same men & women that go to such extremes to express their disgust against bisexuals, are the same ones attending every rally for equality...the same individuals that scream "NO LABELS" are the same ones labeling bisexuals as an atrocity.
Let's just be real, we're women and some women like penetration...what's the big deal? So a fem is allowed to enjoy penetration, but a stud is not? Hypocritical bullshit. The extent in which people display their judgment is absurd and does nothing but cause the entire community to take 10 steps backwards. It's really simple, if you don't like it, agree with it, or appreciate it, simply keep it moving.
And before anyone begins to point fingers, I am not bisexual, I am 100% lesbian and have absolutely no interest in men but I refuse to look down upon those that do because with me being a lesbian, I have felt ashamed, worthless, and alone on more than one occasion, all due to who & what I love and who & what I am. I refuse to cause those same feelings and emotions in another individual because it's just too close for home and fuck it, if I am keeping it all the way real, who am I or anyone else to place judgment on another?!
I'm not so big to believe that this blog will make a dent in the endless black pit I like to call internalized prejudice, but hopefully someone will think twice before throwing out their next unnecessary, derogatory and hurtful comment. While it may garner you a few fist pumps and cause your head to become way too big from all the attention, you just look dumb as hell at the end of it all. Lastly, if you do choose to continue disrespecting people based on their sexual preferences, please do not complain that in 2012 (almost 2013), we're still fighting for equality and acceptance. You are no different than those that turn their noses up at us.
